Biography

The Survivalists are an underground hip hop collective from the South West side of Chicago. The group consists of two emcees, Cell Uno and Just One Soul.

Just One Soul is best known for his passionate lyrics, intriguing vocal tone and a wolverine like rapid delivery. Besides excellent internal rhyme structure, Soul’s trademark has to be his inviting energy and ability to pack a powerful punch while expressing his unique perspective on youth in America. This young hip hop soul guarantees to give your mind plenty to wrap around.

Cell Uno is a no nonsense golden era purist, a cypher tested lyricist and MPC enthusiast. Cell delivers a slightly more mature perspective that is often over looked in hip hop: A father and family man balancing the responsibilities & struggles of an everyday working man by day, as well as an artist launching a career doing what he loves by night. Growing up with an older brother who was a dj and an older sister who was a graffiti artist, this emcee, producer and record digger was quickly swept into the hip hop culture and never looked back.

The Survivalists collectively tackle subject matter rooted in their experiences growing up in Chicago Hispanic families. Their songs’ topics range from life in some of Chicago’s poorest and violence riddled communities, to thoughts and perspectives on religion & science. Their love of the hip hop culture has molded their foundation and style while promising to evolve with a commitment to excellence in hip hop.

As an independent group, they are always striving for exposure and raising the bar for hip hop with each performance. Their creative rhymes and beats are soulful, relatable and is not your everyday water downed "radio hip hop." Their influences are fundamental boom bap hip hop, ranging from A Tribe Called Quest & J Dilla to Wu-Tang Clan & Immortal Technique. This up and coming hip hop group is definitely something to watch out for!
